Honolulu Fire Department responded to a two-alarm building fire at 4:29 a.m. Sunday morning.

The building was located on Hausten Street near the Willows Restaurant.

HFD arrived on the scene at 4:37 a.m. when firefighters found a 12-story residential condominium with heavy black smoke and fire coming from the ninth floor.

Firefighters reported three adults: two males and one female lived in one unit. One male was awoken to the fire by light, heat and smoke. He was able to alert the other two occupants.

Fire damage was confined to the living room of the unit.

All occupants got out safely. Both males used a fire hose to extinguish the fire and were able to knock down and control the fire before HFD arrived. Firefighters fully extinguished the fire at 5:01 a.m.

Both males were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital.

Damage estimates are set at $140,000 for the unit and $30,000 for the contents of the unit.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. Honolulu Fire Department urges the public to make sure they have working smoke detectors in their homes.
