Students and church members lend a helping hand in the community
UH Manoa students and members of the World Mission Society Church of God teamed up this morning to clean Kalo Park in Manoa.
It was in effort to spread environmental awareness.
The park is close to UH Manoa's campus, and was identified by the city and county of Honolulu as a place that needed environmental help.
Lack of adequate maintenance, trash and debris that spilled into student housing left the property a mess.
"This is in preparation for the Passover, and also because the UH students are going on spring break pretty soon, we decided that this is a perfect time for all of us to come together and help clean up this park," said Erica Ruiz, Church of God member.
About 40 volunteers helped collect trash, cut grass, trim trees, and glue environmental placards along the sidewalk.
Within the past year, the church has cleaned Ala Moana Park, streets near the airport, and adopted a block in Nanakuli.
