UH Softball Hosts Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic

(HAWAII ATHLETICS) —The University of Hawai'i softball team (12-11, 0-0 Big West) hosts its final tournament, the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic this week from Wednesday, March 14-18 at the Raibnow Wahine Softball Stadium. Teams participating in this week's tourney are Cleveland State (8-11, 0-0 Horizon), Maryland (7-17, 0-0 Big 10), North Dakota (13-11, 0-0 Big Sky), and No. 4 Tennessee (24-1, 0-0 SEC).
 
Sophomore catcher/designated player Callee Heen now leads the UH offense with a.375 batting average. She is 24-64 at the plate with a team-high 14 runs scored, seven home runs and 20 RBI. Heen hit safely in all five games last week and currently is on an eight-game hitting streak and she has reached base safely in 10 consecutive games as well. Heen also tops UH with five multiple-hit games and six multiple RBI games.
 
Junior third baseman Nicole Lopez continues to be an offensive threat. She is second on the team hitting .342. She leads UH with 25 hits and 73 at bats. Lopez is second on the team with 13 runs scored, four home runs and 12 RBI.
 
In the pitching circle, Dana Thomsen started all five games and went 2-3 last week. She however also fired a pair of complete game shutouts, finishing the tournament firing a one-hitter against Arkansas Pine Bluff in a 5-0 win. Thomsen enters the week with a 2.70 ERA and a 7-7 overall record. She has 20 walks with 71 strikeouts in 85.2 innings pitched.
 
This last tourney will the third in a row that UH is hosting. It will also end a 17-game homestand for the Rainbow Wahine.
