Waipio - At least 150 people received free cancer screenings at Kaiser Permanente in Waipio Saturday.

Doctors offered free screenings for skin, head, and neck cancer.

It's all part of the Cancer Screening and Prevention Fair.

Dr. Jae Lim, an ear, nose and throat specialist at Kaiser, says when it comes to fighting cancer, early detection is critical.

"When cancer is detected late, we're talking about using combination surgery, and sometimes chemo and radiation to treat this," said Dr. Lim, "that has a lot of side effects, so the earlier you detect it, the better you will do and improve your overall survival outcome."

Kaiser Permanente also offered members same-day mammograms and pap smears, which help detect breast and cervical cancer.
