A fire destroyed a Kahuku home Friday afternoon, leaving the family who lives there without a home.
Honolulu fire crews were called to a home on Leleuli Street at around 12:30 p.m.
One resident told Island News, they're just grateful that no one was home at the time of the fire as eight family members stay there. The youngest is only seven months old.
"We were planning on staying home today but we didn't, that was a good thing. We are just grateful that we weren't home," Tatiana Brown, resident said.
Neighbors also quickly sprung into action, hosing down the house and using buckets of water to fight the fire themselves before crews arrived.
There were construction workers across the street who ran over and turned off the electricity.
The kitchen is destroyed with everything melted and black. The family speculates the fire started in the kitchen.
The residents are all going to stay with friends and relatives tonight.
The fire department is still investigating and do not have a cause yet.
Damage is estimated at $150,000.
