Man says mob threats made him admit to Hawaii concert scam

Posted: Updated:
HONOLULU (AP) -

Court documents show that a man who admitted lying to the University of Hawaii about his ability to secure Stevie Wonder for a concert says he pleaded guilty because he feared prosecutors would reveal his cooperation against East Coast mobsters.

A judge this week unsealed a motion at the request of prosecutors and The Associated Press that says why Marc Hubbard wants to withdraw his 2016 guilty plea. The judge has not ruled on Hubbard's request.

Hubbard claims his family is at risk for mob retaliation.

Prosecutors say he did offer to cooperate against purported organized crime figures, but his help was useless.

Prosecutors portray his request as a last-ditch effort to escape responsibility.
