The Hawaii County Office of Aging is encouraging seniors who no longer drive to get a state-issued identification card.

An ID card allows for seniors to independently obtain services.  It may be necessary for legal transactions, air travel, and to qualify for state or federal benefits.

State ID cards are valid for eight years, versus after age 72, driver's licenses must be renewed every two years.

To apply or renew a state ID, proof of name, date of birth, social security number, legal presence and proof of address are needed at either of the following locations:

  • Hilo: Hilo Police Department, 349 Kapi'olani St
  • Kona: West Hawaii Civic Center, 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Hwy
  • Waimea: Waimea Center, 65-1158 Mamalahoa Hwy, Suite 1-A
