Big Island police have confirmed a body found in the Wailuku River Sunday, as 28 year-old Kelly Mrowinski of Chicago.

An apparent flash flood on January 26th, 2018 swept away Mrowinski and a male co-worker into the Wailuku River. The male was able to swim to shore, however, Mrowinski could not be located after an extensive land and aerial search.

The death was concluded as an accidental "freshwater drowning," by the medical examiner who performed the autopsy.
