No. 2 HawaiI Men's Volleyball To Meet No. 13 Concordia-Irvine For First Time In Two-Match Series

Posted: Updated:

(HAWAII ATHLETICS) The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team will take a break from Big West Conference action by hosting a two-match series against new Mountain Pacific Sports Federation member No. 13 Concordia-Irvine, Friday, March 2 and Sunday, March 4 at the Stan Sheriff Center.

This week's matches mark the first-ever meeting between the teams. UH (9-2), which moved up one spot to No. 2 in this week's AVCA poll, enters the series following a two-match split of UC Irvine to open BWC play while CUI (8-6) won all three matches last week including a five-set victory over BWC member CSUN in which the Eagles erased six match points.

The Warriors saw their 14-match conference home win streak come to an end in a four-set loss to UCI on Sunday. In that match, outside hitter Stijn van Tilburg matched his career-high with 27 kills, hitting .458. The junior averaged 6.00 kills per set in the series to earn BWC Player of the Week honors. Libero Larry Tuileta earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting a pair of double-digit dig totals.

After extending its home win streak to 26 matches earlier this season, UH has lost two of its last four at the Sheriff Center. Hawai'i concludes its seven-week homestand with the 24th Outrigger Resorts Invitational, March 8-10, featuring fellow Top 10 ranked teams BYU, Lewis, and Penn State.
