(HAWAII ATHLETICS) —The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team (11-16, 4-10 Big West) will welcome in UC Santa Barbra (12-15, 9-6 Big West) for the first of two remaining games at the Stan Sheriff Center beginning on Thursday at 7 p.m. HT.
The Rainbow Wahine wrapped up the road portion of their regular season schedule last week by going on 1-1 with a win at CSUN followed by an overtime loss to Long Beach State University. Senior guard Sarah Toeaina strung together back-to-back double-doubles for the first time in her career, combining for 38 points and 26 rebounds. Alongside her was junior forward Lahni Salanoa, as she hit five three-point baskets for 19 points against CSUN followed by her first double-double of the season against LBSU with 16 points and 11 rebounds. UH sits in the No. 7 position of the Big West Conference standings at 4-10, a full game ahead of the No. 9 position with two games remaining on the schedule.
As the No. 4 team in the BWC standings, the Gauchos enter Thursday as winners of four of their last five games, dating back to Feb. 10. The lone loss came on Feb. 21 on the road at No. 2 Cal Poly by the slimmest of margins at 73-72. Senior forward Drew Edelman leads UCSB in scoring and enters Thursday's game averaging 16.2 points per game. Edelman has scored 20 points or better in six of her last seven games, dating back to when UH visited the Thunderdome on Feb. 3 when she had a season-high 27 points in the 71-61 win.
The last three encounters have gone to UCSB, with the last UH win coming on Mar. 5, 2016 in Honolulu. Before the recent three-game stretch, the 'Bows won seven consecutive games against the Gauchos, dating back to the 2012-13 season.
Thursday night's contest will be deemed a "Green Out" at the Stan Sheriff Center, as fans will be encouraged to wear green in support of the Rainbow Wahine.
