EWA BEACH, Hawaii - A pedestrian heading to work was hit and killed by a car in Ewa Beach Thursday morning.
Police tell Island News a 26-year-old Kapolei man was driving south on Fort Weaver Road between Parish Drive and Pohakupuna Road when he hit and killed a 58-year-old Ewa man around 4:30 a.m. Police believe the victim was walking in the crosswalk on his way to the bus stop.
The crosswalk does not have flashing lights, but does have two LED street lights right above it. Police say this is one of the better lit and painted crosswalks. Speed does not appear to be a factor
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the driver was not injured. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident. However, traffic investigators are working to determine if the driver was speeding.
