Seniors protest housing rates

The picket signs are up.

Dozens of Seniors take signs to the streets to protest against their rents greatly increasing.  They say their units are no longer affordable, and tenants can’t pay the extra cost.

Building management says rents are being brought up to county affordable housing rates and offers to pay the difference for tenants for a year.

    More than 150 volunteers on Saturday joined The Trust for Public Land at Ka‘ala Farm in Waianae on Oahu’s Leeward Shore to take part in a communal land restoration effort. The participants— including conservation donors and volunteers from 13 local companies — helped steward Kaala Farm by opening loi and planting kalo, while keiki enjoyed cultural activities such as pounding poi and making healthy ulu pancakes.

    The Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Foundation (HGLCF) ended its 29th Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival (HRFF29) with its signature Red Carpet Event on August 18. The HRFF is one of the longest-running LGBT film festivals in the country. This year, the Festival showcased 15 films as well as special events and exclusive appearances over the span of two consecutive weekends.
