Two house fires break out overnight on Oahu

Honolulu Fire Department responded to a building fire at a two-story home on Kainui Street in Kailua shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.  When HFD arrived, a fire was burning near the outside stairs of the home.

No one was home at the time.  The cause and extent of the damage is still under investigation.

A second fire broke out Saturday night at a home on Piki Street in Aiea.  

HPD says the blaze was in a one story house located near the Nahele Neighborhood Park.  No one was home at the time of the fire.  The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

    More than 150 volunteers on Saturday joined The Trust for Public Land at Ka‘ala Farm in Waianae on Oahu’s Leeward Shore to take part in a communal land restoration effort. The participants— including conservation donors and volunteers from 13 local companies — helped steward Kaala Farm by opening loi and planting kalo, while keiki enjoyed cultural activities such as pounding poi and making healthy ulu pancakes.

    The Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Foundation (HGLCF) ended its 29th Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival (HRFF29) with its signature Red Carpet Event on August 18. The HRFF is one of the longest-running LGBT film festivals in the country. This year, the Festival showcased 15 films as well as special events and exclusive appearances over the span of two consecutive weekends.

    The Honolulu Gay & Lesbian Cultural Foundation (HGLCF) ended its 29th Annual Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival (HRFF29) with its signature Red Carpet Event on August 18. The HRFF is one of the longest-running LGBT film festivals in the country.
