Pacific Rim Cup 2018 Powered by Under Armour has partnered with the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association (HYSA) for additional support of the inaugural tournament. In conjunction with the event's charity ambassador, celebrity comedian Yuji Ayabe, the Pacific Rim Cup has donated international soccer icon David Villa’s autographed jersey to HYSA. The tournament featuring teams from Japan, Canada and the U.S. will debut in Hawaii at Aloha Stadium on Feb. 8 and 10.
“We are so grateful for our partnership with the Hawaii Youth Soccer Association,” said Takehiko Nakamura, tournament organizer. “Pacific Rim Cup supports HYSA’s vision in providing kokua to Hawaii’s soccer youth, and is proud to help fulfill their mission.”
Mr. Ayabe will present Villa's autographed New York City FC jersey to HYSA's fundraiser at the Pacific Rim Cup’s VIP gala on Feb. 9 at Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort & Spa. The Spanish National Team's all-time leading goal scorer, Villa helped his country win the 2010 FIFA World Cup. After a briefly playing in Australia for Melbourne City, the former FC Barcelona star has remained at the top of his game with NYCFC, claiming MLS MVP and multiple All-Star and Best XI honors.
The debut of the tournament marks the first time in six years that Major League Soccer (MLS) and Japan Professional Football League (J.League) teams will compete in Hawaii.
