HONOLULU - Hawaiian Electric says 5,920 customers in the Manoa area were without power Monday afternoon.

Some students at the University of Hawaii at Manoa say some classes were cancelled.

HECO says power was restored within an hour by 1 p.m.

There was an issue with a transformer that feeds substations serving the Manoa Valley area, according to HECO.  Normally the company is able to switch customers over to another circuit quickly, but at the time HECO was doing scheduled maintenance on the alternative circuit.
