MG Montemayor hails from Houston, Texas where she grew up surrounded by the glory of high school football and its "Friday Night Lights."
Her dad passed on his love for basketball on to her -- playing the sport from a young age -- and remembers when Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon led the Rockets to back-to-back NBA championships. To this day, she remains a die-hard Houston sports fan.
She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin where she double-majored in Radio-TV-Film and Communication Studies and committed her allegiance to Texas Longhorn sports. She later moved to Los Angeles to attend the University of Southern California where she received her Masters in Journalism from the Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism -- reporting and producing video and digital stories on USC athletics for the Julie Chen/Leslie Moonves CBS Media Center.
Before arriving at KITV, she was a Sports Intern at ABC7 Los Angeles where she assisted in coverage of the local sports teams and had the opportunity to work alongside former KITV anchor/reporter Rob Fukuzaki. After completing the internship, she worked as an ABC7 News Assistant where she produced traffic segments, worked in show production, and assisted at the assignment desk.
Today, she is the weekend sports anchor at Island News.
She loves to travel. She's gone diving in the Great Barrier Reef, sky-dived in New Zealand, and went on a memorable safari in Tanzania where she got to witness the migration of the wildebeests out of the Serengeti. When she's not watching sports for fun or work, you can catch her exploring the sights in her new city with her maltese, Blossom.
