HONOLULU - A 57-year-old man was found dead on a road in Waianae on Tuesday just before midnight, according to to Emergency Medical Services officials.
The body was found on Mailiili Road near Paakea Road.
The Honolulu medical examiner has identified the man as Peter Peralta III of Waianae.
Traffic investigators say the Peralta was traveling north on Mailiili Road at a high rate of speed. He lost control of the motorcycle and traveled onto the grassy shoulder. Peralta then crashed into a fixed object and came to a rest on a chain link fence. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say Peralta was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Traffic investigators say speed appears to be a factor in the crash.
This is the first traffic fatality on Oahu in 2018 compared with zero at this time in 2017.
A 22-year-old woman was taken to the hospital in critical condition after a two-car crash on the Pali Highway at Waokanaka Street Tuesday night.
It happened at around 8:15 p.m. in the Kailua-bound lanes. Two other people involved in the crash refused transport to a hospital.
Traffic investigators say the woman was driving southbound on the Pali Highway when she lost control of her vehicle and traveled into the northbound lanes and collided into another vehicle. The woman's car was broadsided as a result of going into the oncoming lanes of traffic.
A 21-year-old Kailua man and a 22-year-old Kaneohe man, who were both in the other vehicle, were not injured.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
