Ocean Safety reports that a surfer was injured just after 6 p.m. New Year's Day at Laniakea on the North Shore.

Other surfers helped the 54-year-old woman until Emergency Medical Services responded and took over treatment. Paramedics say she was bit on the leg and was in stable condition.

Lifeguards patrolled Laniakea and Chuns throughout the day but did not see any sharks. Warning signs, however, remained up all morning and afternoon.

Lifeguards warned beach goers that entering the water was at their own risk.

Ocean Safety will reassess Tuesday morning.

Oahu's last shark attack happened at the beginning of November 2017 when a surfer was bit on the leg at Makaha Beach.
