(Hawaii Athletics) - The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team will return home to the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday to close out 2017 with an inter-city matchup against Hawai'i Pacific. Tip-off against the Sharks is slated for 7:00 p.m. in the 'Bows' final non-conference contest of the season.
The Rainbow Wahine (6-6) look to shake off a challenging two-loss week against ranked foes Texas A&M and Oregon in Las Vegas at Duel in the Desert, while the Sharks (8-2) are riding a four-game win streak into the Sheriff Center.
Hawai'i senior guard Sarah Toeaina double-figure scoring in four of the last five games, including back-to-back 25- and 27-point performances against Montana State and Idaho State. Over the three-game stretch last week, which included a comeback win at Arizona, sophomore point guard Julissa Tago paced the Rainbow Wahine, averaging 8.3 points per outing. Sophomore Makenna Woodfolk leads UH on the glass, averaging 7.1 rebounds per contest.
Winning eight of their last nine outings, the Sharks are averaging 77.3 points a game and boast a 13.7-PPG margin of victory, paced by senior forward and current PacWest Defender of the Week Jessi Reeves, who averages 12.7 points and 7.9 rebounds per game. HPU's assists leader, junior guard Janessa Manzano dishes 2.6 per outing and scores 12.2 PPG as well. The Sharks are taking the court for the first time since a 27-point win over Montana State University Billings on Dec. 19.
Saturday's meeting will be the ninth all-time between the Rainbow Wahine and Sharks. Hawai'i owns a perfect 8-0 advantage in the all-time series, winning the last meeting, 88-54, last December.
UH will compete in its final game of 2017 on Saturday, jumping right into Big West play on the road in the new year with a two-game swing at Cal State Fullerton (Jan. 4) and UC Davis (Jan. 6).
