Waipahu High senior earned a college degree before graduating high school
WAIPAHU, Hawaii -
A Waipahu High School senior just earned her college degree before she even graduated from high school.
Rovy Anne Dipaysa enrolled in the Early College High School Program the semester before her freshmen year in high school.
The program allows students to take courses that earn them credits in both high school and college.
She just earned her associate of arts degree from Leeward Community College.
LCC Chancellor Manny Cabral says Dipaysa is the first of many Waipahu High School students who will be earning their AA degrees in May.
"It helped me to come out of my shell, because like I said, when I was 7th grade and 8th grade, I was really shy and just in the corner not speaking and then now, I have more confidence to do public speaking and I have more confidence that I know to myself that I can further my education," Dipaysa said.
Dipaysa moved to Hawaii from the Philippines in 2012.
Now, she wants to earn a bachelor's degree in nursing.
