Uber helps reunite Army soldier with his teenage children

Posted: Updated:

He's been away from his children for than six months, but on Saturday night, an Army soldier and part-time Uber driver got a big surprise at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport.

It's not everyday that you see an Uber driver get out of his car to greet customers at the airport. But when Colin Reed saw some familiar faces, he just had to.

Little did he know his wife, Jennifer, a fellow Uber driver, was ahead of the game. She and the newly formed UberMILITARY in Hawaii team had been working the last few months to bring Colin's teenage children, Teresa and Colin Jr., to Hawaii. "We came all the way from Arkansas to surprise our Dad," Teresa said.

They haven't seen each other since the summer.  It's also Teresa and Colin Jr.'s first time visiting the islands.

And as their Dad loads up the suitcases into his car,  it's a chance for the whole family to spend the holiday season together.

"We didn't think we would see them until next year some time," Jennifer Reed said, "so having them right here, right now, is definitely special."
