Surf at Billabong Pipe Masters was called on this morning, but justlong enough to complete Round 1.
Diminishing conditions called the competition off following the round, but local boy Sebastian Zietz was finally able to get his turn at Banzai Pipeline.
On Zietz's opening round, he missed the heat win to Adrian Buchan by just 0.23 points. This means he'll need to compete in a second-round draw. Also in Round 2, Maui's Dusty Payne will have a chance to knock off world-title hopeful Gabriel Medina, the current world number-two. Hawaii's Benji Brand could also could upset Julian Wilson, current world number-four, who's seeking his first world champion trophy.
If local boys take down Medina and Wilson early, plus Jordy Smith goes down in his next round, reigning champ John John Florence could clinch a repeat title ahead of the final draw.
Conditions permitting, surf resumes Sunday morning at 7:30 a.m.
