(Hawaii Athletics) - The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball was picked to finish second in the inaugural preseason Big West Conference Coaches' Poll.
The Rainbow Warriors earned 32 votes trailing preseason favorite Long Beach State by two votes. The Beach earned four of the six first place votes while UH received the other two. UC Irvine and CSUN were picked third followed by UC Santa Barbara and UC San Diego.
The 2018 season marks the inaugural season for the Big West Conference, the only Division I conference to add the sport of men's volleyball.
Just last week, the Warriors were picked No. 5 in the preseason AVCA Top 15 Coaches Poll while the Beach was No. 2. UH is coming off an NCAA Tournament semifinal appearance a year ago and returns three starters and 11 lettermen.
Hawai'i opens the season with the inaugural Texaco Rainbow Warrior Classic, Jan. 4-6 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
