Red Cross shelter opens for Hilo flooding victims
Big Island police say Kamehameha Avenue and Bayfront Highway are closed due to flooding in Hilo Thursday.
HILO, Hawaii - The American Red Cross opened a shelter at the Butler Building on Manono Street in Hilo for those affected by the flooding Thursday. The shelter opened at 1 p.m.
Big Island police also say Kamehameha Avenue and Bayfront Highway are closed due to flooding.
Kamehameha Avenue is closed between Waianueanue Avenue to Manono Street and Aupuni Street. Bayfront Highway is closed between Waianuenue Avenue and Manono Street.
Due to heavy rains, the roadways and surrounding areas are extremely saturated and visibility is also limited. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and use alternate routes.
