Police held a ceremony at McCoy Pavillion to award top honors for outstanding police officers on Wednesday.

Officer Keola Kopa was presented the Warrior Gold Medal of Valor, after being one of the first officers on scene during the deadly Marco Polo Apartment Fire back in July.
Through falling debris, flames, and plumes of smoke making it hard to breathe, Officer Kopa helped residents out of the burning building, including carrying a resident down from the 20th floor to safety.

“Seeing the look on the family’s faces after they found their loved ones back out and safe, I think that was the most rewarding thing for all of us together.  At the end of it we were just thankful we were able to do what we did for them.” Said Kopa.

Many other officers were also recognized today for their brave assistance during the fire.
Sergeant Jonathan Castro was awarded Officer of the Quarter.
Certificates of Merit were also awarded to Frederick Hillen Jr., Officer Jordan Monico, and Corporal Adam K. Schonhardt, who was off duty when he helped perform CPR on a biker who had been struck by a truck.
