Police make arrest in Kailua murder investigation
Honolulu police opened a second-degree murder case after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in Kailua Monday.
KAILUA, Hawaii - Honolulu police opened a second-degree murder case after a 24-year-old man was stabbed to death in Kailua Monday.
A 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with the case. Police also opened a second-degree robbery case.
Police were called to the scene at around 5:30 p.m. for a reported robbery. According to Honolulu Emergency Medical Services, the victim suffered stab wounds. He initially went to the hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say the victim and another man entered a business establishment. The victim spoke briefly with the suspect and punched him. While they struggled, the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim. The victim left the scene with the man he came into the store with. The victim's was found in a vehicle parked at the side of the road nearby and taken to the hospital.
Crime scene tape blocked off Uluniu and Aulike Streets near the Kailua Business Center throughout Monday night. There was also heavy police presence near the Aloha Tattoo Company on Kuulei Road.
The identity of the man who died spread quickly on social media. The family of Dayson Kaae said they were shocked to find out about his death on social media. They are also upset Kaae's friend didn't do more to try to save his life. Kaae leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter and five older siblings.
