HONOLULU - A former University of Hawaii volleyball player and former Honolulu Police Department officer was sentenced Monday to 6 months in prison for federal wire fraud.

In addition to jail time, 35-year-old Maulia LaBarre also gets one year of supervised release.

LaBarre reportedly admitted to using his position as an HPD officer to have sex with someone suspected of prostitution in exchange for helping her pending criminal case.
