Kapolei teen terrified after robber pulls gun near high school

Posted: Updated:

A 15-year-old boy robbed in broad daylight in Kapolei with a gun pointed to his head is thankful to be alive.
In an effort to protect the teenager's identity, Island News spoke with his stepfather.
Adam Makekau said his stepson, is still shaken up after a black Toyota Camry pulled up next to him near Kapolei High School Monday and a man wearing a ski mask jumped out and demanded money.

The victim, a sophomore, said the suspect patted him down and found a single dollar bill.
A Good Samaritan passing by stepped in and the suspect took off.

"He was very shaken and emotional and it took a little while to calm him down," said Makekau.

The incident happened off Kapolei Parkway, a main throughway surrounded by homes and several schools and one many students use to walk to and from school.

"It could happen to anybody's kids and we figured Kapolei is a newer community and we always felt like it was a safe area," Makekau exclaimed.

The family is hoping anyone who witnessed anything will come forward.

Honolulu Police describe the gunman as 6'6" with tribal tattoos on his leg, wearing a black long-sleeve shirt, yellow and green surf shorts and shiny black boots.

The four door Camry has tinted windows. The victim said the car has a Wai'anae "W" sticker on the center of the rear window.
