Hana Ho‘ohiwahiwa ‘O Ka‘iulani – that's the theme this week at Sheraton Princess Kaiulani, where the hotel honors its namesake, Princess Victoria Ka‘iulani, Kalaninuiahilapalapa Kawekiu i Lunalilo Cleghorn, on the 142nd anniversary of her birth.
Monday, October 16 is the Princess’ actual birthday, and the festivities include a celebration at Ka‘iulani Triangle Park across Ohana East on Kuhio Avenue, a 2 p.m. birthday cake cutting ceremony at the hotel’s Dolphin Lanai, and a 4:30 p.m. Royal Court Procession.
Tihati Productions will re-enact a traditional Royal Court procession beginning at the ‘Ainahau Lobby, pausing at the Princess’ portrait for a tribute to the Princess, and ending at the Lava Rock stage, along with a performance by 5th grade students from Princess Victoria Ka‘iulani School.
On Saturday, October 21 at 9 a.m., the grand finale of the weeklong tribute is the Princess Ka‘iulani Keiki Hula Festival. The hula festival celebrates island music, culture and dance performances by more than 75 children between the ages of five and 12 from O‘ahu. The keiki share their love for hula to celebrate the life of the young princess and help perpetuate the Hawaiian culture.
