MoviePass service lets theater-goers see a movie a day for $10 monthly membership

Posted: Updated:

Any movie, any theater, any day.  That sounds too good to be true, but it’s not.

A new app called MoviePass is bringing the Netflix concept to actual movies at the theater, offering you a movie a day, for $10 a month.

“The customers pay one flat monthly fee which is now $9.95 and can go to a movie everyday at about 90% of theaters.” Explained Co-Founder and COO of MoviePass, Stacy Spikes.

MoviePass isn't necessarily new, it's been offered in Hawaii for the past four years.  It used to be $40 a month, now it's a hot ticket after slashing it's price.

Signing up is simple. First, you download an app and sign up with a credit card.
Then a movie pass card is sent to you within the next couple of weeks.

You go on the app to choose your movie, and MoviePass deposits the exact cost of the money on to your card.  You then use that card to buy the ticket.

Most people told Island News they hadn’t heard of it, but are interested in subscribing.

“$10 a month for unlimited movies at the theater, it’s a pretty good idea.” Said local resident Derrick Paiva.

“Sounds like a good deal. Unlimited? Yeah I would get it.” Said another resident Pio Pauulu.

On Oahu, ten theaters accept the pass, including some Consolidated theaters and Regal Cinemas.

A couple sticking points, you can only buy a single ticket with each card, it has to be the day of the movie, and you have to be within 100 yards of the theater to select your movie.
