HILO, Hawaii -

A Big Island man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for killing his girlfriend and her mother in 2013.

Court documents show Sean Matsumoto must serve at least 15 years before being eligible for parole.

He pleaded guilty to killing his 45-year-old girlfriend Rhonda Ahu and her 74-year-old mother Elaine Ahu  at his Leilani Street home.

The Hawaii Tribune Herald reports his girlfriend bought the shotgun he used in the killing because he could not legally buy it himself due to a history of domestic violence.
