Honolulu Fire Department crews responded to a 3-alarm fire at 2729 Kapiolani Boulevard Thursday afternoon.

They were called to the Iolani Terrace just after 1 p.m.

A bystander told Island News that this building was the old Chaminade University residential housing.  He said piles of furniture stacked on the first floor of the building appears to have caught on fire.  He also said some children were seen smoking near the area before the building went up in flames.

Fire officials say there were some occupants in the building.  None of them were injured.  The Red Cross is helping them with food and shelter.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.  Damage estimates have not yet been released.

Last week, there was a fire under an H-1 Freeway overpass in this area.
