Reminder: Bus transfers replaced with day passes

Posted: Updated:

Paper-transfers are discontinued for The Bus riders and have been replaced with all day passes.

The change went into effect Sunday.

Instead of paying $2.50 for a one way fare and getting a free transfer slip, adult riders have to purchase a $5 unlimited one day pass, that's valid for 27 hours.

For some, the cost is doubled their daily-commute, others see change as a positive.

"I think it's a wonderful idea. I think when they do implement the rail, I think they'll have to make some changes. But if they could keep the one-day pass for the rail, that would be perfect," Todd Grumling, a Makiki resident said.

"People should know that living nowadays is very high. Everything is sky high. I don't think it's a good idea," Solo Moanan, a Kalihi resident said.

New prices will be $5 for adults, $2.50 for children and $2 for seniors and they can only be purchased from drivers.

More changes will come in January as one-way fares increases to $2.75 and monthly passes will jump from $60 to $70.
