Head-on crash leaves 4 dead on Maui

Four people are dead after a head on collision on Maui. Police say the crash happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday on Honoapi'ilani Highway in Ka'anapali.

A Toyota Camry driving north on Honoapi'ilani highway was hit head-on by a white Dodge pickup truck driving in the opposite direction after the truck crossed the center line.

Police say the Camry then collided with another truck and was later hit by a van.

The driver of the Camry and its two passengers were pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Dodge pickup truck also died at the scene.

Police identified the victims as 52-year-old Raymundo Hernandez-Ramirez of Lahaina, 36-year-old Charles Whipple of San Mateo, California, and 36-year-old Danille McCollock of Galt, California. The driver of the Camry was identified as 70-year-old Jack Carreras of Lahaina.

Initial investigation reveals speed as a factor in the crash.

The involvement of drugs and alcohol are still pending as the investigation is ongoing.

This is is Maui County's 11th traffic fatality this year, compared to 12 the same time last year.
