Enforcement for first amendment permits at city parks to take effect Sunday

Posted: Updated:

Enforcement for first amendment permits at city parks will take effect Sunday.

Religious groups and other non-profits will no longer be allowed to sell t-shirts and food that isn't in line with their organization's mission.

The city has been notifying groups that come in for park permits that it won't be business as usual in October.

City inspectors will be spot checking and Honolulu police officers will be enforcing the new rules.

Penalties will be up to a $500 fine or 30 days in jail.

As of Friday, no non-profits have applied for permits for October.
