Councilman Elefante plans to run for re-election

HONOLULU -

One of the Honolulu City Council's newest members became the first to announce he's seeking re-election Friday.

Brandon Elefante represents Pearl City, Aiea and Waipahu. He officially announced he's running for a second term.

He took office in 2014 and he's one of four council-members whose term is up next November.

The very first bill introduced by Elefante goes into effect Sunday.

It's doing away with bus-transfers, adding an all day unlimited pass.

"Other municipalities have a one day bus pass or multi day pass for visitors or people who want to get around the city. This is a game-changer. It will eliminate transfers. It will be an ability for people to use our city's bus systems and get around where they want to," Elefante said.

Elefante heads the Public Safety Council Committee.

Another bill he authored bans the use of cell phones in cross walks.

That goes into effect October 25 and calls for a $15 penalty for the first offense, up to $99 for a third offense.
