KAPOLEI, Hawaii - Hotels are springing up in Kapolei.

Last year, a Hampton Inn and Suites by Hilton Kapolei opened. There is almost a 100 percent occupancy every week.

An Embassy Suites Hotel by Hilton Kapolei is under construction and Marriott is working on applying for a permit to build a Residence Inn.

City Councilwoman Kimberly Pine says the development of the hotels were actually by request of local residents in the area.

"The locals were saying that they're family has to stay all the way in Waikiki. and so many of the area residents requested that more affordable hotels be placed within the Kapolei area for their friends and their family," Pine said.

Sports teams, corporate, government and military guests are also among the hotels frequent visitors.

The Hawaii Lodging and Tourism Association says the Kapolei hotels also bring large numbers of jobs for local residents...

The Embassy Suites Hotel by Hilton Kapolei will have 180 rooms and is set to open towards the end of this year.
