Two elementary teachers were awarded the "Oscars" of education today....
Masaru Uchino from Momilani Elementary and Kelly Sutcliffe from Jefferson Elementary received the Milken Educator Award.
The award honors outstanding excellence in education

Masaru Uchino was recognized for helping Momilani third graders score at least 25 points higher in math than average scores on Hawaii State assessment exams each year.
He also founded Momilani's "fit factory" - helping students and staff to stay healthy and active.

Sutcliffe is recognized for teaching her fourth graders to solve real-world problems.

Recognition isn't all that comes with this award...Each takes home a $25,000 prize.

"I'm actually planning a wedding now so, the timing couldn't be more perfect to help me pay for the wedding this December. I'm really excited." said Uchino.

Stucliffe and Uchino are among 35 honorees who receive this national recognition for accomplishments in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
