HONOLULU - Hawaiian Electric Company launched a new online map on Wednesday that will allow Oahu customers to report power outages and monitor restoration efforts using a computer or mobile device.

The map can be found on Hawaiian Electric’s website at www.hawaiianelectric.com/outagemap.

The outage map displays real-time information for all known power outages across Oahu, based on reports from customers. The map will indicate whether troubleshooting crews are on the way or are already working to restore power. It will also provide information on the number of customers affected by an outage, an estimated time of restoration, and the cause of the problem, if it is available.

Customers will also find a link on the map to report a power outage. Customers can also use Hawaiian Electric's trouble line at 1-855-304-1212.

“We've listened to our customers, who’ve made it clear they want more information about power outages. They’ve told us they want to know someone is working on restoring their power, so we’re providing them with another option they can use to stay updated,” said Jim Alberts, senior vice president of customer service for Hawaiian Electric.

Because many customers use smart phones and tablets during power outages, the map has been optimized for display on mobile devices, just like the rest of Hawaiian Electric's website.

Customers can also monitor power restoration efforts during significant outages by following Hawaiian Electric on Twitter at @HwnElectric with the hashtag #OahuOutage.
