HONOLULU - The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no tsunami threat for Hawaii after a 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck in the Northern Mariana Islands.

It happened just after 11:15 a.m. HST and the epicenter was 226 miles north of Saipan.

Scientists say that there is no tsunami threat because the earthquake was located too deep inside the earth.
