Blood Bank develops plan in preparation for possibility of Zika outbreak
The Blood Bank of Hawaii is preparing for the possibility of a Zika outbreak.
The Blood Bank has developed a plan to address the spread which includes--checking potential donors for symptoms and encouraging people who exhibit symptoms to report them and also Exploring ways to test donated blood for the virus as well as ways to sterilize blood donations.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently approved a clinical trial for testing of the virus, to which the Blood Bank of Hawaii has been asked to participate. Blood bank officials hope to have an answer from the FDA within the next month.
