Hokule'a crew takes voyage from the sea to the classroom
HONOLULU - As Hokule'a makes her way through Lake Okeechobee, FL, the Polynesian Voyaging Society regained their land legs.
The crew drove several hundred miles south, and turned their focus toward education.
They connected with leaders from the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden. The organization partners with more than 280 schools nationwide to take on environmental challenges of the future.
During the lesson, students imagined themselves aboard the Hokule'a, then discussed which plants they would take with them.
The partnership also involves NASA. Next week Hokule'a will honor Hawai'i's great astronauts.
KITV's Paula Akana is headed to the Sunshine State, we'll have LIVE coverage beginning Monday at 5 AM.
