Maleko McDonnell joined KITV's News Team after spending the last 17 years in radio on iHeartMedia’s Star 101.9-FM.  As a radio announcer, in 2006, Maleko won the Honolulu Star-Bulletin's People’s Choice Award for Best Radio Personality.

Maleko grew up in Kailua on the Windward side of Oahu. He graduated from St. Louis School and then earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications with an emphasis in Broadcast Journalism from Northwest Missouri State University.

After graduating, Maleko returned to the islands to start his broadcast career at Star 101.9, where he later become the afternoon drive host of Maleko's Room. As a radio announcer, Maleko has been live on-air during several statewide emergencies, including two island wide blackouts on Oahu.  Maleko was one of the first radio announcers to break-in and provide continuing radio coverage following an early morning earthquake and resulting island wide power outage in 2006. When Oahu’s power grid failed again in 2008, Maleko was on-air from the start, providing radio coverage throughout the event.

Maleko regularly emcees charity, sporting, and concert events throughout the state. He’s a big fan of live music, and enjoys beach time whenever possible.
