WAIPAHU, Hawaii -

On Anapau Place in Waikele, Christmas and light go hand in hand.  The neighborhood has been putting up displays for several years.  This year, however, is different.

Fourteen of these homes are competing in the ABC show "The Great Christmas Light Fight."  The show stacks three neighborhoods from across the U.S. against each other for a shot to win $50,000 and the title of top Christmas light show in the nation.

"Hawaii's going to take this big time," said Keith Yoshida.

Yoshida has been decorating his home for more than 20 years.

"We want to really convey the Aloha Spirit and really show what Hawaii is all about.  What's the meaning about Hawaii and, yeah, we do celebrate Christmas here.  We have no snow, but that's OK.  We'll celebrate in a big way," said Yoshida.

Yoshida and the rest of his neighbors have to sway judge Carter Oosterhouse.

"To get the nod, you know, it's all about the style.  It's all about the amount of lights they use and about the Christmas spirit," said Oosterhouse.

Their spirit?  Undeniable.  Even the host himself admitted it.

"That was the most beautiful entrance I've had ever," said Oosterhouse.

Oosterhouse made it clear -- the lights are the show, but what this neighborhood showed him could be the difference in setting it apart.

"Overall, for me, I like to see the spirit.  That definitely helps put somebody over the top," said Oosterhouse.

So, will Hawaii come out on top?  Yoshida says there's no doubt.  Because, title or not, their neighborhood has already won.

"When we actually put the show on, that is so much more meaningful than any trophy or any money.  Those are all important.  We're very competitive.  We want to take it and represent Hawaii well.  But, really, it's about giving back," said Yoshida.

"The Great Christmas Light Fight" episode featuring this Waikele neighborhood will air on KITV on Monday, Dec. 14 at 7 p.m.  If you wanted to check out the light show on Anapau Place, you can already do that.  The display is on every night from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  For safety reasons, the street is blocked off to vehicle traffic during show times. Only residents are allowed through.
