Naeole Names New QB for Rainbow Warriors
HONOLULU - On his first day of practice as interim head coach, Chris Naeole made his mark on the Rainbow Warrior football team.
Naeole demoted starting quarterback Max Wittek in favor of junior Ikaika Woolsey when the Bows play at UNLV this Saturday.
Wittek, a USC transfer, started eight games for UH and has 47.9% of his passes for 1,389 yards, 7 touchdowns, with 13 interceptions and one rushing touchdown.
Woolsey has completed 51% of his passes, for 311 yards, one touchdown and 3 interceptions this season.
Last year, Woolsey started 12 games, completing 50% of his passes for 2,538 yards, 13 touchdowns, 13 interceptions, while rushing for 203 yards and one score.
Naeole also named eight new team captains: Left tackle Ben Clarke, right guard Dejon Allen, nose tackle Kory Rasmussen, defensive lineman Kennedy Tulimasealii, linebacker Julian Gener, linebacker Jerrol Garcia-Williams, cornerback Nick Nelson, and punter/kicker Rigo Sanchez.
