No matter what happens with the Maple Leafs prior to Wednesday’s 3 p.m. NHL trade deadline, coach Randy Carlyle may have some more bodies to work into his lineup when the team returns to game action on Thursday night. Injured forwards Clarke MacArthur and Leo Komarov are nearing a return after completing a full 90-minute practice Tuesday at the MasterCard Centre. There was plenty of contact in the session as the Leafs make up for lost practice time this season and each player didn’t appear to suffer a setback suggesting they could return as soon as the team’s home date against the Flyers. “Both of them participated in contact drills,” Carlyle said post-practice. “That’s the first step in them coming back into a lineup. Hopefully they are a possibility for Thursday.” Both forwards have been out with upper-body injuries — Komarov missing five games and MacArthur three.
