Detroit Pistons endure wild final minute to complete season sweep of Washington Wizards
Even in seasons of upheaval, mutiny and rebuilding, the Detroit Pistons have had one reliable constant in recent seasons: the Washington Wizards. The Pistons' 25-4 run to end the third quarter broke open a close game Wednesday and they went on to a 96-95 victory at Verizon Center. The finish was heavy in intrigue: Jose Calderon, after no turnovers the entire game, had two in the final minute. Trevor Ariza's 3-pointer made it 96-93 after the first turnover, and he was fouled with a clear path to the basket after the second, by Will Bynum. Ariza made the two free throws. Then, with the Wizards' follow-up possession, he also had a good look at a corner 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded, but it came up short. It was the Pistons' 14th win in their last 16 meetings with the Wizards, dating to the 2008-09 season, their last playoff year.
