COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky had 35 saves for his second shutout of the season and the Columbus Blue Jackets continued their mastery of the Carolina Hurricanes with a 3-0 win before 16,008 on Friday night in Nationwide Arena.
Center Brandon Dubinsky, right winger Cam Atkinson and rookie center Boone Jenner scored for the Blue Jackets, who have won seven straight against the Hurricanes dating to early in the 2005-06 season.
Carolina, which had won a season-high five straight games, was shut out for the third time this season.
Hurricanes goaltender Anton Khubodin had 21 saves for his first loss of the season.
The Blue Jackets took a 1-0 lead with 5:00 left in the first period when Jenner happened upon a turnover by Carolina center Brent Sutter. From the slot, Jenner fired a wrister that beat Khudobin high on his stick side.
Only 70 seconds later, it was 2-0. Dubinsky came into the zone with a feed, gathered a drop pass from right winger Cam Atkinson and beat Khudobin inside the near post.
The Blue Jackets pushed the lead to 3-0 at 5:54 of the third period, scoring with 24 seconds left in a four-minute power play. Carolina right winger Tuomo Ruutu was called for high-sticking on Blue Jackets right winger R.J. Umberger, even though replays clealy showed it was Hurricanes defenseman Brett Bellemore's stick that caught Umberger in the nose.
Atkinson took a feed off the wall from Jackets center Mark Letestu, skated alone into the slot and beat Khudobin inside the far post.
The rest was up to Bobrovsky, who was playing in only his second game back after missing a month with a groin injury.
Bobrovsky flashed his left pad to rob Hurricanes right wingrt Alexander Semin of a redirection from the slot late in the first period.
In the second period, Bobrovsky came out of the net and gloved a shot by Carolina center Nathan Gerbe.
The Blue Jackets preserved the lead with solid penalty killing in the third period.
Jackets defenseman Nikita Nikitin (interference) and center Artem Anisimov (delay of game) gave the Hurricanes a 5-on-3 power play for 1:08 midway through the third, but Carolina failed to convert.
With 9:50 remaining, Bobrovsky twice stoned Carolina center Elias Lindholm from point-blank range with his right pad.
