2005 HONOLULU -- West Oahu, Hawaii defeated Curacao Sunday to win the Little League World Series.It is the first team from Hawaii to win the title.Hawaii went into the sixth inning behind 6-3."I told them, 'If you want it go get it,'" coach Layton Aliviado said to his team.The team scored three runs in the sixth inning to tie the game at 6-6, sending it into extra innings. Vonn Feao struck out the side in the top of the seventh.Michael Memea stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and hit a homerun to win the game."I'm so happy. I'm so excited. I don't know what to say," Aliviado said after the game.The team from Ewa Beach beat Rancho Buena Vista, Calif. 6-1 on Saturday to win the U.S. title. Curacao was the Little League World Series champion last year.The team from Ewa Beach is scheduled to arrive in Honolulu at 7:46 p.m. Monday on United Airlines Flight 935 out of Los Angeles.Mayor Mufi Hannemann said he wants to give the 11- and 12-year-olds a victory parade this week. He said the team needs to be honored for their incredible achievement.Hurricane Coverage Interupts Game On MainlandLarge parts of the country missed watching the end of the Little League World Series championship.ABC was broadcasting the game on national television. However, it switched to hurricane coverage for East Coast stations when West Oahu and Curacao were tied 6- 6 after the sixth inning.ABC only broadcast the seventh inning - and Memea's game-winning home run - to Hawaii, California and other western stations.
