On a baseball field in Waipio Wednesday evening, the Phillies took on the Rattlers.

For these 7- and 8-year-olds the goal is to follow in the Waipio boy's footsteps. The all-star team has made it to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., for the second time in three years.

“I like to see them like do good plays amazing plays,” said one 8-year-old baseball player.

“It’s really amazing to be down that much and to see that happen,” said Kaylen Furuta.

Sandra Miyama cheered on son Drake as learned how to play the game.

“I always think about it as this is where they start. As moms and dads, you are always like please just catch this ball just the basics,” said Miyama.

Drake said he enjoys watching the Waipio players on television at the Little League World Series.

“It is exciting to watch them on TV. I like when they score home runs,” said Drake Miyama.

Miyama said the Waipio team is an inspiration to the younger players and their parents.

“They are going to get to that age and one day we are going to be in the stands with our signs yelling and cheering,” said Miyama.

The coaches are hoping the younger players see how the success comes from hard work.

“Lot of practice lot of work lot of dedication from the parents and with the right coaching and some of it is luck you have to be blessed with talent,” said coach Craig Furuta.
